Connecticut Senator Joseph Lieberman Works With MasterCard To Block WikiLeaks Funding

WikiLeaks is an international, online, not-for-profit, organization that has exposed important secret, or classified, details concerning various American situations, like the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan, as well as information on the prisoners detained in Guantanamo Bay.

On December 7, 2010, a financial blockade was imposed on WikiLeaks by Bank of America, VISA, MasterCard, PayPal and Western Union. The attack had destroyed 95% of Wikileaks revenue. Wikileaks reports, "The blockade came into force within ten days of the launch of Cablegate as part of a concerted US-based, political attack that included vitriol by senior right wing politicians, including assassination calls against WikiLeaks staff."

We now know who those US politicians were, Senator Joseph Lieberman, and Congressman Peter T. King.

Senator Joseph Lieberman

In a press release put out by WikiLeaks, they claim Senator Joseph Lieberman, from my home state of Connecticut, along with Congressman Peter T. King had "convsersations" with MasterCard over cooperating on the blockade.

I am an American, and I applaud the work of Julian Assange, founder of WikiLeaks.  I want to know what my government is doing with my money.  As far as Joseph Lieberman, he is one of the worst senators in the United States.  He supports some of the worst tyrannical legislation proposed in Congress.  I will continue keeping a watchful eye on Senator Lieberman.

Finally, Julian Assange, had this to say of the situation: “There is no sovereignty without economic sovereignty. It is concerning that hard-right elements in the United States have been able to pressure VISA and MasterCard, who together hold monopoly over the European market, into introducing a blockade that the U.S. Treasury has rightly rejected. These unaccountable elements are directly interfering in the political and economic freedoms of EU consumers and are setting a precedent for political censorship of the world’s media.”

Four Torture Victims File Lawsuit Against Canada For Not Arresting President George Bush On His Last Visit

On November 14th, 2012, four torture survivors filed a complaint against Canada with the United Nations Committee against Torture for the country’s failure to investigate and prosecute former President George W. Bush during his visit to British Columbia last year. (link)

These men were held at Guantánamo Bay, an American military prison operated in Cuba, infamous for their "enhanced interrogation" techniques aka torture.  Barack Obama promised to close Guantanamo Bay in 2007, before he was elected President, but has yet to do so.

You have to read the 69 page draft indictment to really get a picture of what these men went through.  Try to imagine being taken from your home in one country, never being told what you are charged with, a bag being put over your head as your flown to a prison in another country, where everyday you are subjected to beatings, being hung from walls or ceilings, sleep, food and water deprivation, exposure to extreme temperatures, and more.  Your family not knowing anything, worrying what happened to you.

It is important to note that three out of four of these men were, after years, eventually released with no charges, and the fourth man, only detained when he was sixteen, is still in Guantanamo and has yet to be charged with a crime.
